If you love young adult books, then you must have already read (or at least heard of) Becky Albertalli’s Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda.
Released in 2015, it is Albertalli’s debut novel. It follows gay teenager Simon Spier who is in high school, and still in the closet. He starts e-mailing with a mysterious boy, ‘Blue’, and things seem to be going well – until an e-mail falls into the wrong hands, and Simon is put at risk of being exposed.
Simon success is proven not just by the fact that it’s critically acclaimed and a bestseller, but the fact that it’s now a major motion picture!
But, that’s not where the story ends, as he was just one of the LGBTQIA+ characters from the book. Albertalli returns with the first-ever sequel and spinoff of Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda!
Leah on the Offbeat follows Leah Burke, Simon’s BFF who happens to be bisexual. An only child, she has been open with her mom about her sexuality. But not to anyone else, not to her friends, and not even to Simon himself.
With prom and college on the horizon, Leah’s group of friends is starting to fracture and tensions are running high. Leah has to strike the right note while the people she loves are fighting, and she realizes she might love one of them more than she ever intended.
Time to add this to your TBR list!
