About the Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down
The pressure’s really piling up on Greg Heffley. His mom thinks video games are turning his brain to mush, so she wants her son to put down the controller and explore his “creative side.”
As if that’s not scary enough, Halloween’s just around the corner and the frights are coming at Greg from every angle.
When Greg discovers a bag of gummy worms, it sparks an idea. Can he get his mom off his back by making a movie . . . and will he become rich and famous in the process? Or will doubling down on this plan just double Greg’s troubles?
About Jeff Kinney
Jeff Kinney attended the University of Maryland in the 1990s. There he had his first experience in creating a comic strip, called “Igdoof” as part of the campus newspaper. This sparked his desire to be a newspaper cartoonist. However, he failed to publish his first syndication. Then in 1998, that’s the time he started writing about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. After six years, he began publishing this in daily installments at Funbrain.com. Currently, the online version of the book has had 80 million visits.
In 2006, Jeff signed a multi-book deal with publisher Harry N. Abrams, Inc. to turn Diary of a Wimpy Kid into a print series. The first Diary of a Wimpy Kid book was published in 2007 and became an instant bestseller. In fact, about 180 million copies have now been printed and sold worldwide!
Today, Jeff is a game designer and cartoonist, apart from being the author of children’s books. Three of the Wimpy Kid books (Diary of the Wimpy Kid, Dog Days, and Rodrick Rules) have been adapted into movies. Kinney is also the creator of the kid-friendly website Poptropica, an online role-playing educational website. In 2015, Kinney and his wife Julie opened an independent bookstore and cafe in Massachusetts.
