Jay Asher’s Thirteen Reasons Why premiering on Netflix

13 Reasons Why, the phenomenal bestselling novel by Jay Asher, is debuting on the small screen on March 31, 2017. Adapted by Brian Yorkey and available on Netflix, the series’ first season will have 13 episodes.

Young actor Dylan Minnette takes on the lead role of Clay Jensen, a high school student who receives 13 cassette tapes from a classmate who committed suicide. That’s all we’ll say about it; we don’t want to spoil anything in case you haven’t read the book!

The phenomenal bestseller

First released in 2007, 13 Reasons Why has since topped several bestseller lists and received critical acclaim. Some awards it’s bagged include the Kirkus Reviews Editors Choice, the 2008 California Book Award for Young Adult, and the 2009 International Reading Association’s Young Adult’s Choice List.

In 2016, a tenth anniversary edition of the book was released. Apart from a gorgeous new cover, it also featured: the book’s original ending, a new introduction and a special essay from Asher; pages from the notebook that Asher used while writing the book; reader reactions; and a reading guide.
