In case you missed it, today’s Friends Day on Facebook! It’s also Facebook’s 13th birthday, so let’s wish Mark Zuckerberg and the rest of the team a good one today.
One of the great things about having friends is sharing some great reads with them. Here a few you should definitely try:
1. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling
Comedian and actress Mindy Kaling’s memoir is great for friends who are starting something new, be it going to a new school, having their first job, or even their first heartbreak. And, of course, it covers the fundamentals of good friendships.
2. Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
Another unorthodox story of friendship, this one focuses on the relationship between Alex and Jonathan. If you’re not afraid to shed some tears with your BFFs, then give this story a shot.
3. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
One of the all-time favorites! For the teens and yuppies, this will inspire you to overcome whatever hurdles are in your way and find freedom and happiness in your life. And for the older generations, this will help you reminisce about the ups and downs of your youth.
4. We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
Although it’s a tale of two sisters (*wink wink*), it reminds us of the loyalty that’s the foundation of any long-lasting friendship. It’s not exactly the lightest story in the world, but it does show the relentless and unbreakable bond the two girls have and the kinds of bullets they are willing to take for each other.
5. You Shall Know Our Velocity! by Dave Eggers
If you and your squad have been itching to travel, this one’s meant for you. Two friends have $32,000 to spend between the two of them. But it’s not just money that the two of them have to unload – they also have to deal with a profound loss.
